Lover Eternal Rhage's story. Rhage crossed Scribe Virgin that a long time ago (think of her as a God-like Queen of the vampires.) Rhage did something naughty, she possessed him with a dragon-like animal. When Rhage being overly emotional, he transforms into the beast and goes nuts. So to keep the animal at bay, he goes into the brutal death matches and have a bunch of meaningless sex.

So basically animal a convenient excuse for the hero can act as an asshole.

Mary Luce has just found out that her cancer has returned. So she's a little upset because of it. So she befriends a transient young man who turns out to be a vampire, who is approaching his age of maturity. This is how she comes in contact with The Brothers, and that's where Rhage is deeply infatuated with her. Basically, it's love at first sight on his part, but Mary takes some time to get used to the idea. Rhage is a god in the looks department, and she is certainly not special. Plus the whole matter with cancer.

The action itself clustered around a bit, but essentially Mary falls under the radar of the Lessening Society, as Rhage want to protect her. But how can they be together when Mary is a sick human, and a animal possesses an uncontrollable Rhage?

There are some very good moments in Lover Eternal - most of them coming after Rhage discovers that he is "bonded" with Mary. He goes from macho wounded warrior to love sick puppy, and it's kind of endearing. There are stumbling blocks though, and when he fails her, it makes the characters more interesting and real.

The vampire star of this first installment in the series is Wrath. Wrath is a pure blooded vampire, and this is an incredible rarity in the world he lives in (which by the way, our world, although I doubt anyone I know has ever seen a 6'9 "vampire with long black hair and glasses to hide his almost total blindness). Wrath is cruel and deadly. Merely walking into a bar making sure he gets souls to freeze around him.

Wrath ends up as the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, an ancient group of warriors who protect their race from their mortal enemy, Lesser, who live only to kill vampires. The other warriors Thorment,  Rhage, Zsadist, his twin Phury, Vishous and with Wrath they keep their world safe.

But this is a romance, so it must be a woman in it, and her name is Beth Randall, the half human/half-vampyr daughter of Wrath's other warrior, Darius. Before Darius dies, he asks Wrath to help his daughter through her transition to being a vampire, but he is told no. But when he dies, Wrath himself feel he has to obliged to ensure that his friend's daughter is taken care of. And take care of her, he does.

The romance and sex in this first Brotherhood book is quite enjoyable. Wrath is impressive and Beth are well suited to him.

Ward definitely knows how to write a steamy sexy scene.

Dark Lover is a very good first book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. As an introduction to the series, it does its job well. I definitely wanted to read more. She includes a non-human vampire in this book, Butch, and it makes this series more interesting aspect of this book, he lives with warriors, especially the one called Vishous.

The next person in the series are: Rhage, the most beautiful warrior and the one with the worst demon inside him.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series!!

Recommend to anyone over 18 to read this!! This book is the actual age of the United States. It has something to do sex scenes! But I, as a poor housewife,  now love housewife porn as every housewife!
